Description
This piece is one of my “recycled works,” part of an ongoing body of work created through deconstruction and transformation of previous artwork. In this piece, various mixed-media and painted works on paper have been reduced to fragments, and re-created as new artworks. This process, part of a larger project that has been underway for many years, gives these works conceptual dimensions beyond their immediate visual characteristics, and engages viewers in a broader conceptual process underlying my evolving work.
The technique used in this piece is similar to that of mosaic, where smaller individual fragments are cut and fit together into a larger pattern or composition. In addition to the bold shapes and forms built up through the careful arrangement of diverse fragmentary elements, the spaces between components are also an integral aspect of these works. Though visually subtle, these spaces, or margins, where the diverse and fragmentary elements meet, and merge, comprise an important underlying framework that maps meetings of past/present/future.
This piece is flush-mounted on a box frame, and is made with archival materials.
